Founded in 1978, Ballet Nacional de España is an ambassador of Spanish culture. The dance company has been internationally acclaimed by audience and critics, obtaining various awards, such as New York’s Critics´ Prize for the Best Foreign Show, the Japanese Critics´ Prize and the Critics´ Prize for the Best Spectacle at the Teatro de Bellas Artes in Mexico City among many other accolades. In its nearly 40-year history, BNE has evolved with the times while preserving its interest in all areas of Spanish dance, performing works based on Escuela Bolera, fandango, flamenco, and many others.
Under the direction of Antonio Najarro, BNE continues to stage a wide variety of works representing classical, folklore and contemporary dance. Sorolla, his most recent work which premiered in Madrid last summer, is inspired by the beloved Spanish painter Joaquin Sorolla’s ‘Vision of Spain’ collection, 14 monumental murals commissioned by and installed to this day in the Hispanic Society of America museum in Manhattan.
