Romeo & Juliet – The Philadelphia Orchestra

February 25, 2016 @ 8:00 pm

Hear Shakespeare’s famous love stories brought to life through music! Led by principal guest conductor Stephane Denève, the world-renowned Philadelphia Orchestra returns to the Knight Concert Hall with a night of Shakespeare in Love! In Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, the music evokes the beauty and tragedy of Shakespeare’s famous star-crossed lovers – feel the love and the anguish of the ill-fated couple. Mendelssohn’s Incidental Music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, originally composed for Shakespeare’s delightful romp about love and mistaken identities, brilliantly sets the stage for the dancing fairies, the comedy of Oberon, Tatiana and Puck, and of course, Bottom. Beatrice and Benedict was inspired by Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and is one of Berlioz’s most delicate and subtle orchestral pieces. The Philadelphia Orchestra is one of the preeminent orchestras in the world, renowned for its distinctive sound, desired for its keen ability to capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences, and admired for a legacy of innovation in music-making. Join us for this evening of Shakespeare in Love!
